We are reopened for applications – www.thehikefund.org!! Thank you to all of our amazing donors, especially our Job’s Daughters International supporters, who have allowed us to receive new applications after nine months of fundraising. Please continue to do what you can to help amazing children across the nation to afford and access hearing aids and other assistive hearing devices!
The annual day that follows Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday – Giving Tuesday! It’s fascinating that it bookends the flurry of consumerism and seemingly endless deals and discounts. This year’s theme for Giving Tuesday is Unleash Generosity.
As a HIKE Fund supporter and champion, you know we had to discontinue processing grant applications in May 2021 due to decreased funds available to give. We are a lean nonprofit organization where only 2% of our income goes to overhead expenses like insurance, accounting, and legal costs to stay compliant as an organization. Everything else goes to eligible children and their families who are waiting to improve their hearing through aids and other assistive devices.
It is a life-giving and life-changing work, and we do not take for granted the amazing donations and generosity of so many people each year, especially the members of Job’s Daughters International. In a typical year, we give 70 grants ranging from $1,000-$5,000. We deeply want to re-open applications again in 2022. We are working hard to maximize our donations with matching gifts and unique ways to fundraise.
Will you unleash your generosity for Giving Tuesday 2021 to The HIKE Fund? Any amount gets us closer to helping children with the gift of hearing! There are six ways you can support us over the next week:
We are so excited for the fall weather to sweep across the country. Grab those HIKE Fund hoodies and sweatshirts and promote the great work we do because of you! Our applications still remain closed at this time, but we are very excited and hopeful that fundraising this fall will get us back to re-opening. You are always welcome to send in a donation or make one online: https://thehikefund.org/donate/.
Online Auction! Starting on Friday, October 1st, we will kick off an online auction of 12 generously donated items. Auction will close on Saturday, October 16th. RUN for HIKE! We have been granted 10 charity bibs to run the famous Grandma’s Marathonand Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in Duluth, MN on June 18, 2022. We are recruiting for five runners for the marathon (26.2 miles) and five runners for the half marathon (13.1 miles). Fundraising is required for the charity bibs: $3,000 minimum for the marathon, and $1,500 for the half marathon. Each runner will have support with fundraising and guidance for achieving their goals. We are looking to host the team together in MN over the weekend of the races and each runner will be provided with a HIKE Fund running tank, hat, and other essentials. If you are interested in being a member of the HIKE Fund Marathon/Half Marathon Team, complete this survey by November 30th: https://forms.gle/nX64BJr3gaAnA6nF7.
Welcome, September! The month of cooler temps and a nice cup of coffee, tea, or cocoa. The HIKE Fund has partnered with Driven Coffee Roasters for a month-long fundraiser. From each purchase, we will receive 30%.
Every bit helps as we work to restore our application funding for deserving children and their families—to fulfill our mission in giving the gift of hearing!
My name is Amber. I am the parent of Aidan. Aidan was a recent recipient of funds for new hearing aids. My husband and I cannot send enough thanks to show our gratitude for this opportunity for Aidan. After receiving his hearing aids he could not stop singing. He is not our singer or musician in any way, but he loved the sound of his voice. These new hearing aids have made everything so much more clear for Aidan. They are much more discreet which is relieves the pressure of others noticing them and asking questions or poking fun about. I am excited to see how his education will be impacted as he enters high school and can use his new aids in new ways. Thank you once again from our family.
From Aidan: Thank you for paying for my new hearing aids. I really like that they are less noticeable and more clear. I also like that I am able to use bluetooth technology to help me hear my videos for class or a movie I’m watching. I am an eighth grader going to high school and I’m glad that they are harder for others to see.

As of May 10, 2021, The HIKE Fund Board of Directors has discontinued accepting applications due to limited funding. We are working hard to raise money to meet the application requests. We do not have backup funds and we are funding approximately 10 applications per month. This is equivalent to $50,000 per month. COVID-19 has impeded the progress of so many nonprofit organizations like ours. We will continue to evaluate our status to fund applications over the next few months and hope reopen accepting applications by the fall.
